Trading method #1 (9 EMA Entries)
Submitted by Edward Revy on January 19, 2009 - 05:37.
Think about entries.
When your trading strategy says: enter on the cross of Stochastic lines, on the cross of MACD lines, when RSI comes from oversold/bought zone, when two moving averages cross, when divergence occur etc etc. When exactly do you enter?
Usually you would just visually double check that there is a signal from your indicator and then enter on the close of a signal bar.

Why 9 EMA? I simply like it.
14 EMA is too slow, 5 EMA is a bit too quick, 9 is an optimal period, it works for me.
MACD is used in variety of strategies.
You can find tons of information about using MACD indicator, for example:
http://forex-indicators.net/macd
The purpose of MACD here is to show how any indicator can be combined with 9 EMA method.
In fact, if you want to see how I use 9 EMA method with a ready to use strategy, please check the following trading system:
http://forex-strategies-revealed.com/advanced/rsi-fullstochastic
Use the rules as described in the system, plus 9 EMA signals on top. If you read comments, I've described 9 EMA application there.

Hi Peter,
Thank you. I see your point now.
Here is the thing though, I didn't intend to advise using a combination of MACD and 9 EMA (it was used in the presentation screenshot just to illustrate the point). The real application of 9 EMA method is that you would take it and use with your own already complete strategy (not a single indicator). There you'll have an advantage of possibly more effective filtering of trading signals and a better timing of entries/exits overall.
Best regards,
Edward
OK, I'm sorry for late answer..

Hi Peter,
I can't find you link to a screenshot. Please upload the files again and post a link here. Thank you.
The 9 EMA method is very robust, I've been using it for many years; since the first day I discovered it I immediately incorporated it in my trading and never stopped using it.

Edward
Hi everybody!,
I think that this method doesn't work enough. I give one example on one screenshot.
This pages are but otherwise very gut.
How experience do you have with this method?
Peter H.
Hi Andrew,
It's option b.
MACD indicator gives a cross, we do need to wait for a current candle to close and the cross to stay there. Then only, we seek confirmation from 9 EMA: it can immediately agree with our entry signal or tell us to wait. It doesn't matter how much time we wait, as long as MACD doesn't change its signal, we can wait.
The point is, no matter what indicator or combination of indicators you use to get an entry signal, you can always (before making a final decision) look at 9 EMA and decide whether is it the right moment to enter of may be you could wait a bit to reassure that you're doing the right thing.
Regards,
Edward
Hi Edward and other people,
I have one question too.., I have read the whole discussion here about EMA 9, but I don't understand this method well. At the beginning you write "After I get an entry signal from other indicators, I wait till a price bar Closes above 9 EMA to enter Long, or Closes below 9 EMA to enter Short..."
What does mean "after I get an entry signal?".For example..
does entry signal mean the first cross of MACD lines (lines can "uncross" and cross each other in some time interval) or confirmed cross of MACD (after the candle is closed)?
Which procedure is correct?
a)in some time interval (example 16:00-16:30h - 30 min chart) MACD lines "uncross" and cross each other alternatively, but the present price of the candle is below/upward 9 EMA. That's why I don't wait for 16:30h (when the candle will be closed and I will see, if MACD lines will be really crossed or uncrossed), so I entire sell/buy now.
b)I know, that MACD lines were crossed (the candle was closed at 16:30h) and I wait still (to be sure that this cross is right for next
progress) for next candle (16:30-17:00h), which will have close price below/upward 9 EMA?How long (how many candles) I should wait it for right signal buy/sell in this situation?
Can you make it clear please?
Thank you very much
Andrew from the Czech Republic
Yes, it is undeniably effective!
Cheers,
Edward
Howdy Edward,
Seems to be a great tool compared to most of them which i manuovered without sense. Cheers to you!
It would be better to wait for the next opportunity, unless you're looking to enter on a good pullback that will give you the same good chances as for those who entered a bit earlier.
Best regards,
Edward
Edward, first of all i agree with every one elses thoughts on this site.. very enlightening.. keep up the good work. My question is, if i see any trade possibilies a bit late would it be better to wait until the next oportunity or as long as the rules were met enter the trade?.. this goes for any of the Stratagies discussed on this site.
It is rather 9 EMA that confirms/completes other methods :)
Take any strategy that gives you an entry signal and add 9 EMA rule to it. that's the idea.
Best regards,
Edward
Edward,
Would you please suggest an indicator which would fit nicely with 9EMA in order to confirm the signals? Thanks in advance!
